Transcutaneous oxygen tension (tcpO2) is a noninvasive and highly reproducible measure of skin oxygenation and is particularly useful in evaluating diabetic vascular disease because its measurements are not influenced by medial arterial calcifications. In patients with ulcers or amputation wounds, tcpO2 may be used to assess the healing potential and has also been used to evaluate response to surgical or endovascular revascularization.
