Electronic Foot Pressure Mapping System PODIASTAT.
Podiastat is a simple, non-invasive, slim, portable, and cost-effective device used for checking the various foot patterns while walking or standing on it.
Diabetic peripheral neuropathy leads to a loss of protective sensation, resulting in abnormally high, repetitive, and undetected pressures applied to the weight‐bearing plantar surface of the foot. In addition, foot deformities such as hammertoes and small muscle wasting further contribute to increased plantar pressure, particularly at the metatarsal heads where bony prominences reside. Other factors, including reduced ankle dorsiflexion and reduced plantar tissue thickness, are also reported to contribute to increasing plantar pressure. High plantar pressures lead to thickening of callus, adding pressure on the underlying soft tissue and leading to tissue breakdown and ulceration. Changes in foot pressures can be determined by assessing peak plantar pressures or the pressure-time integral.
The foot pressure sensor plate model PODIASTAT is an accurate electronic system for recording and evaluating pressure distribution under the foot in static (weight-bearing), dynamic(walking), and postural conditions. The foot pressure mapping system Podiastat is a measuring tool for the early recognition of altered pressure patterns in individuals with diabetes. It was documented that during walking, the neuropathic patients exhibit a slap gait. The Charcot foot displays higher pressure in the midfoot region as compared to the typical diabetic foot pattern. Information derived from such pressure measures is important in gait and posture research for diagnosing lower limb problems, footwear design, sports biomechanics, injury prevention and other applications.
